Professional Bio

Ruth L. Schwartz, Ph.D., has been a writer, teacher and healer for over twenty years. She holds a Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing, and is certified in hypnotherapy, Reiki, shamanism and energy medicine. HeartMind Integration and HeartMind Therapy are Ruth's own syntheses of the many healing tools and approaches she has studied.

Ruth is the author of five books, and has taught at California State University, California College of the Arts, Cleveland State University, Goddard College, Ashland University, and elsewhere. She also worked for over a decade as an AIDS and cancer educator, and consulted internationally in Africa and the Caribbean. She is fluent in Spanish.

Ruth currently teaches in the low-residency MFA program at Ashland University, Ashland, OH, and the Split Rock Summer Workshops (Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN). She lives and works in Oakland, California, and also spends time in Shelburne Falls, where she co-founded Girlfriend School, (“Conscious Relationships for Lesbians ... and everyone else,”) with Michelle Murrain. Ruth offers HeartMind Integration sessions by phone all over the world, and in person on both the West and East Coasts.
